Maundy Thursday

Well it’s Maundy Thursday today and  Queen Elizabeth is coming to Derby to present the Maundy Money at Derby Cathedral and then she is visiting to Royal Derby Hospital to officially open it.

A little information about Maundy Thursday:

Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples on the night before he was crucified.

Maundy Thursday in the United Kingdom features the Monarch offering Maundy money, also known as Royal Maundy, to selected senior citizens – one man and one woman for each year of the monarch’s age. The Monarch presents each man and woman with a red and white purse during the service. The red purse traditionally contains an allowance for clothing and provisions and the white purse holds Maundy coins to match the monarch’s age

Now that’s enough social history for 1 post :)

The 2 cards below are amongst my favourites as they are are plain and simple!!
But I love them!

Lovely cards Lesley. My Gran's friend received Maundy Money from the Queen today. She was really nervous!

Lesley, thanks for the history type lesson - very interesting.
I had never heard of Maundy Money!
Your cards are wonderful - in fact, I've already noted how you did them so I can CASE one (if that's not a problem with you). I just think they're great.
